Background
The committee is composed of national and
international members providing expertise in the broad array of
disciplines that compose the transportation-related noise and
vibration field. Committees are limited to 25 members including the
chairman (however, the committee may add an additional four members
that are not from North America).
ADC40/A1F04 has a number of subcommittees which
provide further focus on certain aspects of the full committee's
areas of interest. The subcommittees are:
-
Aircraft Noise
-
Highway Noise
-
Rail / Mass Transit Noise
The full committee meets twice each year: at the TRB
Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. (each January); and at the
Committee's summer meeting, the time and place of which are
determined by a different sponsoring transportation agency each year.
Committee activities include sponsoring paper and
conference sessions at TRB Annual Meetings and at Committee summer
meetings, and promulgating a Committee newsletter and a Directory of
Committe Officials, Subcommittee Members, State Transportation Agency
Members , and Friends of the Committee.
The Executive Director of TRB appoints committee
members for a 3-year service period. Members of a committee are
selected on the basis of their interest in and ability to contribute
to the study of the subject or to the solution of the problem under
consideration. Reappointments are limited by the
National Academy of Sciences'
requirements for substantial rotation of membership.
For more information about TRB committees and
committee membership, contact the
Transportation Research Board, or refer
to the TRB publication Informational and Operational Guide.
Participation in committee activities varies with the
level of interest and volunteer support a person wishes to give.
Members must have expertise and experience in
transportation-related noise and/or vibration. Potential committee
members are usually drawn from the pool of associate members.
Friends of the Committee are those who have an
interest in the information generated by the committee and possibly
some interest in participation in the form of peer review of annual
meeting papers.

committee members and friends.
